School Partnerships MiM collaborates with the Institute for Collaborative Education and the Urban Assembly School of Music and Art to introduce collective music making to its students. These opportunities teach group improvisation through careful listening, develop confidence by encouraging students to bring their own compositions for development and group performance, introducing students to rhythms, melodies, and instruments of different cultures, and much more. Our school program includes workshops that provide young musicians the opportunity to work together as a band, supporting each other creatively. These workshops and rehearsals culminate in performances. If you’re interested in bringing MiM workshops or assemblies to your school, contact danilo@artsforart.org Testimonials
"The first day I joined MiM, I was surprised that I was in a room of people who truly loved music (unlike my schoolmates). What I love most about MiM is the loving and encouraging environment that's been created to grow us as musicians and improvisers. MiM quite literally is responsible for making me a better and more comfortable soloist." -MiM Student “In my first MiM class I was immediately wishing I had known about the program earlier because it was super interesting. I have been learning violin through Suzuki since I was five but I had no experience with jazz or improvising to make art with sound. I learned so much and I know my music skills have expanded. I’ll keep coming back because it was so much fun.” - MiM Student “At the Music is Mine workshops I had the amazing opportunity to learn from musicians and peers I never would have spent time with otherwise. I was able to improve my improvising and sight reading, and made friends I probably wouldn’t have outside of the workshops. It’s a great program, and I hope to continue to be a part of it in the future!” - Institute for Collaborative Education student |
