Jo Wood-Brown: 'Dreaming Woman'

Exhibit runs January 21st - February 19th, 2023
FiveMyles - 558 St Johns Place, Brooklyn NY, 11238
Ticketed  performances: 5:30 pm start times on Sat, Jan. 21 & 28, Sun, Feb. 12 & 19
Jo Wood-Brown: Dreaming Woman showcases a collection of stories told through painting, video, and installation. Centering on a figure by the same name, Dreaming Woman permeates throughout the exhibition. Taking on many forms, genders, and geographies, her presence dreams of new futures. The exhibition expands through the collaboration with Jean Carla Rodea, whose soundscape holds the space, and Fred Moten, whose poetry articulates through word and voice. Dreaming Woman asks us to dream, to transform, and to see new possibilities. By providing space for collective contributions, the viewers and the performers emerge as part of Dreaming Woman’s story.

Since the first Vision Festival in 1996, Jo Wood-Brown has been an important part of Arts for Art’s multi-disciplined aesthetic.  She has curated Vision Art Shows in addition to developing a series of installations that enlivened the spaces with an improvisational creativity that matched the music we present. Now we are proud to collaborate with Jo and FiveMyles to bring AFA artist performances to Dreaming Woman, a truly multi-discipline event merging the presentation of visual art, music, and dance.
