Description

Speaking to the Spoken is a live quartet improvisation honoring the visionary drummer, healer, and educator Milford Graves. Weaving together improvisation with recordings of Graves’ own voice and teachings, the performance creates a living dialogue between past and present.

Inspired by Graves’ groundbreaking research into the relationship between rhythm, drumming, and the human heartbeat, the work reflects Vision Festival 30’s theme, Heart to Resist. The drum and the heart remain in constant conversation, transforming the performance into an expression of memory, resilience, and the enduring power of creative music.
