Every brushstroke, every interaction with clay, was a critical action illuminating our humanity. Jeff was a master artist. His clay work speaks to his connection to all humanity, especially to those who suffer.
Jeff Schlanger was a major witness to the Vision Festival art community and beyond, catching the colors of sound with his eyes and giving them a kind of permanence.
He was born in March 1937 in NYC. He lived his life in boundless creative expression and interaction. With paint and clay, with music and communities of artists, he shared his deep love of humanity.
We share our condolences with his family and close friends, who are feeling his loss on a deeply personal level, including his wife, painter Anne Humanfeld; his two sons, Raphael and Jordan Schlanger; and his grandchildren, Zoe Schlanger and Mikolo Schlanger.
Let us continue to listen, and take the time to look and see what is beautiful and complex, and sometimes terrible. By doing this, we can strive to understand and learn from Art lessons in love, dedication, and an unconquerable spirit.
“Music as color, inked on paper shaped by the sounds blown across the page. Jeff Schlanger is the musicWitness. He was present where the music was happening. He was the visual improviser, transforming music into painting. His wall of ceramic faces Chile•NewYork•Afghanistan•Gaza forever protests the brutality of War”
