ARTS FOR ART EDUCATION PROGRAMS give underserved and diverse youth opportunities to strengthen their creative and social skills and cultural awareness. AFA youth music education programs use improvised music-making to address youths' need to:
■ Strengthen their collaborative skill, by working with others toward a common creative goal;
■ Improve their situational awareness, by exercising their ability to understand and make decisions based on how a group or ensemble works;
■ Gain appreciation for improvised music forms while increasing their musical skill, experiences, and knowledge as instrumentalists, vocalists, improvisers, and expressive communicators.
