Description

The duo of Alexis Marcelo and James Brandon Lewis was formed in 2021 during the pandemic, when Marcelo stepped in for the great Thomas Sayers Ellis on tour. Traveling from Sardinia through Austria and Poland, and back to Italy, the two forged a deep bond grounded in the African American improvisational tradition of the 1960s and 1970s.

Despite their age difference, they created a sound that amplifies the heart of the African American experience—driven by purpose, intellect, and heart: unabashed, blazing fire.
